Why did I choose this topic in particular? It’s simple
really I chose it because, it’s fascinating. Not many people who read these
tales notice the uncanny similarities between the classic play of William
Shakespeare Romeo & Juliet and the poem Pyramus & Thisbe by Publius Ovidius Naso better known as Ovid. The two stories create vivid
images in your mind, which helps you understand what the authors were describing
through words.
The tales begin with two dashing
youths, who fall in love with their neighbors and two Beautiful young girls who
return their love. The Parents of both
couples oppose a relationship between them for reasons not explained in
the stories, their parents who stand between
them, forbid them to see each other or even to speak of their love. As the
stories go on at a point there comes to be a misunderstanding between the
lovers. The two men believe the lives of their beloveds have been taken away,
for Pyramus he thought Thisbe was devoured by a lion and Romeo thought Juliet
drank poison. The two youths couldn’t stand the idea of their lovers not being
with them; therefore they took their own lives. When both maidens came across the dead bodies
of their loved ones, they were shattered and couldn’t bear the pain, they both
shared a similar death, because they took their lovers dagger and plunged it
into their hearts hoping that it will reunite them with the love of their
lives.
The tales center
on the idea, that true love is forever. Love cannot be contained or regulated,
even by death. Both of the love stories continue to
inspire lovers all around the world. The love between the two remain one of the
purest and truest ever seen in this world. Both tales end in tragedy but live
on in readers’ hearts forever. Love cannot be forbidden, the fire of love the more
it is superset the more it glows and rages on, love can always find a way. We
are all given the opportunity to find love in this world; sometimes it comes
after heart break, for others its love at first sight. When you find love take
the chance and accept the challenges that come along with it. Imagine being in love with
someone who loves everything you do, it’s like being in a fairytale that would
last forever. When you’re in love with that person who means the world to you,
you can’t ever imagine losing them, because you know deep down; your heart
would shatter, and you would feel like you could never love again, that’s what
love is. Every day you think of those sweet moments, shared smiles, and
unforgettable laughter. Together you start to think “I can never live without
this.” By: Jasmine Merchandani
